B1 Preliminary for Schools - make a video of your HOUSE

IF WE MUST STAY HOME, THEN LET'S MAKE IT COUNT!

We worked on this project with two teenage girls who are preparing the exam B1 Preliminary for Schools.

Unit 6 in the book Compact Preliminary for Schools, 2nd Edition, deals with houses and places. This year, thanks to lockdown and online classes, I had been able to learn more about my students' lives, i.e. their pets, bedrooms, interests and even their sleeping habits! haha

So, in order to spice it up a little bit, I thought about using their love for Tik Tok and video-editing skills to my advantage and ask them to create a video showing me around their houses, the way famous people do on MTV Cribs. The idea was for this project to be a final integrative task, which allowed them to relate and use all the vocabulary, expressions and structures they had learnt in the Unit, plus practise their presentation skills, plus develop their creativity, plus HAVE FUN!

In the end, I think that's one of the most important units of measure with which we teachers should assess the success of our lessons: ENJOYMENT. If the students have a moment of Flow in the lesson and they are able to focus and enjoy what they are doing genuinely, then learning comes naturally and is MEMORABLE.
